Best of the Met Gala: Roger and Mirka Federer hit the red carpet while the world reacts to Serena Williams' news

WATCH: Roger Federer surprised young tennis players at the Cary Leeds Center for Tennis and Learning in the Bronx before the Met Gala.

Serena Williams had big news to share on Monday night at the annual Met Gala with the announcement of her second pregnancy, but the 23-time Grand Slam singles champion wasn't tennis' only representation at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's signature event. Williams' fellow all-time great, Roger Federer, and his wife, Mirka, were among those in attendance, too.

Federer wasn't there to just enjoy the exclusive, invite-only event for the first time in six years. He was working: The Swiss star co-chaired alongside longtime friend, and Vogue magazine's editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, singer Dua Lipa, actors Michaela Coel and Penélope Cruz, and museum curator Andrew Bolton.

Earlier in the week, he was out and about in New York City, visiting with children at the Cary Leeds Tennis Center in the Bronx; chowing down on burgers and fries; and catching up with his good friend, comedian Trevor Noah, over a since of pizza. Leading up to his big night, Federer chronicled his preparations for the Met Gala on Twitter in real time.

Famously the winner of GQ magazine's 'Most Stylish Man of the Decade' contest in 2019, Federer later dished on his passion for fashion on the red carpet.

“I think the sports people have gotten more and more fashionable," Federer told the AP on the red carpet. "I think we're fortunate enough to get on covers much more frequently nowadays, athletes, than ever before. ... Life has been so intertwined between sports and fashion in recent years so it's nice to come out on a type of red carpet like this."

For the event, Federer wore a sharp black tuxedo, accessorized with sunglasses and a brand-new Rolex, while his better half turned heads in a floor-length, feathery, pink gown.

In addition to Federer and Williams, Andy Roddick and his wife, Brooklyn Decker, rocked the red carpet less than a month after they celebrated their 14th wedding anniversary.

Italian star Matteo Berrettini was also spotted, looking dapper in all-black, everything. Berrettini is currently sidelined from the tour as he continues to recover from a stomach muscle tear, and withdrew last week from his home event in Rome.

As the dust from Williams' bombshell announcement settled, the well-wishes soon poured in. World No. 1 Iga Swiatek and American teenager Coco Gauff were among those to congratulate her in the comments.
